What I listen to on a run

December 29, 2017June 17, 2018Leave a comment

When I talk to my non running friends about running a common theme bubbles to the surface; ‘don’t you get bored?’, ‘how do you keep going?’ I certainly didn’t wake up one morning and say to myself, ‘I’m going to run for 3 hours this morning’, it’s been a slow and gradual process over about … Continue reading What I listen to on a run

Tarawera Miler Training- Week 5

December 27, 2017June 17, 2018Leave a comment

I’m here, I haven’t forgotten, I just got swamped with work and Christmas commitments. Tarawera Miler training Week 5! Shit this is going fast! I, however, am not. Training This week was an epic week of training. I honestly can’t believe I managed it. It was both physically and mentally exhausting with 5 runs, 4 … Continue reading Tarawera Miler Training- Week 5

Tarawera Miler Training- Week 4

December 17, 2017June 17, 20182 Comments

Holy crap, it's been a month since I signed up for a 100 Mile race. Granted for me the word "race" is a little loose, it's more about making it to the end without using my life insurance. I'm super proud of myself for sticking with the plan for the past month. I've been a … Continue reading Tarawera Miler Training- Week 4

Oh dear- Where did my brains go?

December 16, 2017June 17, 20181 Comment

I've had one of those weeks. Who knows the cause of it? Maybe it was last week's full on week of training, or not getting enough sleep or that time of the month but I seriously feel like I'm loosing my shit. Training has been a little bit blah this week but I've save the … Continue reading Oh dear- Where did my brains go?

Thoughts on food- The Food diary

December 12, 2017December 12, 20172 Comments

Some people may say I'm a fad dieter. I call it being a scientist and experimenting, where n=1. Without going deep and long form over my dieting history, it is safe to say there have been ups and downs in both weight and my mental attitude towards it. Mentally I've been unhealthy thin and unhealthy … Continue reading Thoughts on food- The Food diary

Tarawera Miler Training- Week 3

December 10, 2017June 17, 2018Leave a comment

My legs, my legs, I can't feel my legs. Actually I can, they bloody hurt! My coach is trying to kill me. I'm not sure which workout exactly killed my poor sticks but today's long run was excruciating. I'm pleasantly surprised that I don't have many cuts and bruises. My legs were so heavy that … Continue reading Tarawera Miler Training- Week 3

All the gear- What do I use?

December 5, 2017December 5, 20171 Comment

When people find out you are a runner, there are usually two things they want to talk about, why you don't have a car (which I do by the way) and gear. It starts with shoes and usually ends in the deep dark hole of GPS watches. I've been experimenting with gear for a little … Continue reading All the gear- What do I use?

Tarawera Miler Training Diary- Week 2

December 3, 2017June 17, 2018Leave a comment

Well well welcome back to the training diary. As I said with Week 1, I've been following a SquadRun program for a while whilst incorporating a few of my own little researched quirks. After a bit of my own research, I decided to create my own experiment (n=1) using the Zone 2 heart rate training … Continue reading Tarawera Miler Training Diary- Week 2

Taper traditions! Tarawera themed nails and donuts! Pretty ferns, the All Blacks and some little white trail love! So cute! Trust the training! Ultra marathon running explained…. 15 days until my first 100 miler, actually it’s 165km but who’s counting! 18 days until Tarawera, 20k run today, some with the pups and some on my own. Shit is getting real. Had a go at the 28k at Two Bays for the first time today, didn’t really have the best time with over 1300 people crammed onto a single track. Struggled to get any sort of rhythm or consistency going with all the Congo lines, bottle necks and over taking, but it was good to see so many people out and about and to put another long ish run in the bank before New Zealand. Like everyone else I’ve been looking at the calendar and looking at what goals I have for 2023, what holidays I want to take, races I want to do, but I’m still kinda getting over the glamour of the last one! Happy New Year! You know I spent way too much time playing with this!
